In my day the principal concerns of university students were sex, smoking dope, rioting and learning. Learning was something you did only when the first three weren’t available.
Today’s students can put dope in their veins or hope in their brains. If they can conceive it and believe it, they can achieve it. They must know it is not their aptitude but their attitude that will determine their altitude.
There’s no difference between a pessimist who says, \”Oh, it’s hopeless, so don’t bother doing anything\”, and an optimist who says, \”Don’t bother doing anything, it’s going to turn out fine anyway\”. Either way, nothing happens.
The signs of outstanding leadership appear primarily among the followers. Are the followers reaching their potential? Are they learning? Serving? Do they achieve the required results? Do they change with grace? Manage conflict?
