The artist is a receptacle for the emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.
Today is not just another ordinary day. It is an opportunity to do, or say, something that just might inspire someone to greater becoming.. Especially a wayward youth.
When I am finishing a picture, I hold some Godmade object up to it a rock, a flower, the branch of a tree or my hand as a final test. If the painting stands up beside a thing man cannot make, the painting is authentic. If there’s a clash between the two, it’s bad art.
